This progressive 6-week series class is intended for absolute beginner students and introduces salsa On2 basics and foundational concepts. Throughout the six weeks we will focus on timing, musicality, building on the layers of the salsa basic step, learning left and right turns, simple footwork drills, and progressing with introductory partner work techniques that are fundamental to basic On2 salsa.
By the end of the series you will be proficient in:
Leading and following steps to a basic salsa rhythm
Executing left and right turns with and without a partner
Simple footwork drills (side basic, back basic, and other “on-tempo” shines)
You will also be introduced to:
Cross-body-lead steps and signaling for both leads and follows
Combining steps and changing their direction to create your own shines
This progressive 6-week class is designed for students who want to deepen and expand their knowledge. We explore how to combine the foundations of salsa dancing to create more intricate relationships between music, movement, and connection.
By the end of the series you will be proficient in:
Adjusting your dancing to the dance floor
Reflecting a song’s mood in your dancing
Traveling movements and turns
Use your understanding of shining, leading, and following to create and troubleshoot your own dance sequences
You will also be introduced to
Syncopation
Momentum and tension
Rotational movements
Note: We expect students to come to class prepared with the following knowledge and abilities:
On2 salsa timing
Variations of the salsa On2 basic
Right and left turns (with & without partner)
Familiarity with Cross Body Leads (leads & follows)
Our Transitional Concepts Salsa series is designed for dancers who want to strengthen their understanding of foundational salsa concepts. From advanced beginners wanting to take their skills to the next level to intermediate dancers wanting to strengthen their dancing/teaching technique, students will benefit from taking a deep dive into bridging basic salsa movements to more complex turn patterns while maintaining simplicity and clean execution.
In This Series Students Will Learn How To:
Navigate space on the dance floor (dance slots)
Use body positioning and framing
Utilize momentum and tension
Incorporate rotational movements
Before taking This Series Student Should Know the Following
On2 salsa timing
Variations of the salsa On2 basic
Right and left turns (with & without partner)
Familiarity with Cross Body Lead variations (leads & follows)
